A different, experiential trip to Greece and the rest of the world through emblematic grape varieties comes to Umami Festival Thessaly.
Under the guidance of Deals’ top sommelier George Lucas Wine Brand Manager, we will get to know the characteristics of 10 wines with parallel tastes – five from Greece and five from the rest of the world.
The flagship terroir of the Greek and foreign vineyards are presented side by side to highlight the differences and similarities in the characteristics of the grapes.

Way of conduct
Attendees who will book their attendance on time will attend a specially designed room where the presenter will present 10 different wines, 5 from the Greek vineyard and 5 from the international. A tasteful experience that will deepen the knowledge of every participant, through an interactive tasting process. This groundbreaking tasting quest aims to test in practice the common characteristics of some Greek flagship varieties and their parallel relationship with international coming from international wineries.

The tasting of this Masterclass will take place in special tasting glasses from the leading Austrian company RIEDEL.
What is a Masterclass?
Masterclass is a very specific type of seminar with a limited number of people, where the Master Speaker of the subject he represents, presents a unique kind of tasting with the audience, through an experiential seminar.
George Loukas Sommelier
George Loukas has established the company «Genius in Gastronomy» where he conducts seminars, training courses and consultancy services about wines, beers and spirits.
He is Wine Manager in the importing and trading company DEALS S.A. since 1998. writing articles for various magazines as a columnist.
He was nominated 1st Best Greek Sommelier in 2002. He participated in the European Competition of Sommelier representing Greece in 2002 and in the World Competition of Sommelier in 2004. He has been often member of different juries in International wine competitions while he was writing articles about wines and spirits for various magazines as a columnist.
Over recent years, he is coaching candidates for National and International Competitions while in 2019 he has formally undertaken the training of the Greek National Sommelier team.
He collaborates with prestigious hotel groups and during the past 9 years he is responsible for the food pairing of the foremost gastronomic event in Greece, the Sani Gourmet Festival.
He was Wine Consultant in two of the most famous and awarded with Michelin star restaurants. “Spondi” and “Funky Gourmet”.
Since 2017 he is official Brand Ambassador of the renowned Austrian wine glass house Riedel in Greece and in 2018 was named Member of the Didactic Committee of the Association de la Sommelerie Internationale (ASI).
